Delphi has advised Johnson Matthey in the acquisition of Formox AB

Delphi has advised Johnson Matthey on the acquisition of Formox AB (Formox) from Perstorp Specialty Chemicals AB, a company owned by PAI Partners.

Formox is a leading global provider of catalysts, plant designs and licenses for the manufacture of formaldehyde, an important chemical intermediate and had sales of SEK 492 million (£50.1 million) in 2012. It has developed a market leading range of novel metal oxide based catalysts for the production of formaldehyde from methanol.

Formox’s technologies complement Johnson Matthey’s existing strengths in process catalysts and in plant design and licensing. The acquisition enhances Johnson Matthey’s position as a leading supplier of technology for a range of syngas and other chemical processes. Formox will be integrated into Johnson Matthey’s Process Technologies business.

Delphi’s team was led by partners Magnus Björkander and Per Berglöf and they have mainly been assisted by Emma Dansbo, Michael Juhlin, Erica Nobel and Johan Hübner. In addition, a number of lawyers within the firm have assisted in the due diligence phase as well as regarding specialist issues that have arisen during the transaction.
